Widefield School District 3

Widefield School District 3 is located in south El Paso County, Colorado and encompasses approximately 59 square miles. The district was originally organized in 1874 and now serves the communities of Widefield, Security, portions of Fountain, Colorado Springs and surrounding rural areas. Widefield School District 3 provides kindergarten through grade twelve education for nearly 8,600 children and ranks among the top 20 largest of 178 school districts in Colorado.

Security/Widefield is the largest unincorporated area in Colorado. District 3 takes on many of the functions which are normally performed by municipal governments. The district is governed by a five-member Board of Education, members of which are elected on an at-large basis for four-year terms.

Widefield School District 3 manages Widefield Community Education and Recreation Services, better known as the Community Center. Last year, the Community Center provided numerous community education and recreation activities for more than 56,000 people. The district also oversees the Security Public Library and has built trails and parks in our area for the citizens of our school district.

Widefield School District 3 annually ranks first or second in Colorado in graduation rates for African-American students and in the upper third in Colorado in graduation rates for Hispanic students.
